How do I find comps for my home buying adventure?

We are currently thinking of buying a house to flip. How would I go about getting comps to compare home sales before we make an offer? Thanks for any help here. I'd rather just learn how to do this without a realtor or an appraiser at this time. I love doing research, just do not know where to start. Thank you all for taking the time to answer me. I've tried Zillow, but they have something on my area of interest. We are too small I think.

Most residential appraisers get their comps from either: 1) to conduct a search of public records … as you can typically do at the county assessor's office or 2) to conduct a search at the local Metro Listings Service (MLS). While this is the possibility that most housing appraisers use, the MLS is typically limited to real estate professionals. So you would probably have to work with an agent or a broker to get comps from MLS. Also, post some newspapers Recently sold homes in the classifieds section of the newspaper. While most appraisers do not use this approach (when searching the MLS is easier), it is certainly a viable opportunity for you. Since you do not want to work with an agent, broker or appraiser at this point, your best bet would be to search the public records at your county assessor's office or check the local newspaper. Good luck!
